Yellowjackets

3/8″-5/8″ long

Sleek appearance

Body is black and yellow striped, not fuzzy

Nests can be either up high or in the ground, depending on the type

Different species are found throughout the US

Fairly docile unless the nest is approached, then they become aggressive and sting, often repeatedly

Stings may be life threatening to sensitive individuals

Must be done carefully to prevent the yellowjackets from interacting with people

The best time to treat is at night when most of the insects are back in the nest

Yellowjackets are beneficial organisms and are therefore only controlled when they pose an immediate and lasting threat
